These are only the last couple of questions that I will ask to some “sysadmin” which put their hands on MY systems in the last couple of months …..
Why if you have some problems installing YOUR software due to a SQL server instance, you choose to uninstall the SQL server without ask something ? If I’ve installed SQL Server … there was a reason, don’t you think ? And maybe there was even one or more Database running on top of it !
Why if you configure your ESX server to boot from SAN and your HBA doesn’t support to boot from two different path you don’t fix the Boot Lun on a specific controller, so if the SAN switch to controller A to B your esx doesn’t boot anymore ?
Why if you install an ESX server from scratch you have to do a dumb setup pressing NEXT without read anything ? Please install only Win Vista … !
Why if there are a lot of notification options you don’t fill in any information to notify in case of problems ?
Why you never use DNS ? or if you aren’t able to use it, why you don’t consider hosts files ?
Why, if I made a tape backup every day of certain folders, including the one on which you export your database daily, you have to create a folder for each day and export in it a 700 MB dump daily … without delete the oldest one …. do you have an infinite storage somewhere ?
Why you don’t consider that file systems has a know maximum file numbers limit ? When you wrote an application, please avoid to write on disk hundreds of very little files per seconds without deleting the old ones !
Why you try to use $whateveryouwant in production, if you don’t know it … RTFM !
And finally :
Why you call yourself a sysadmin ?
That’s because shit happens !!!
